In My Mailbox: Apr. 8, 2012

BOOKS.
Bought: Both of these are books I've been wanting to read for a while, and in the case of My Invisible Boyfriend, much longer than "a while." I'm nervous about reading this one because with how much I absolutely love serafina67, there's a lot to live up to and I'm not sure what to expect. Awkward, on the other hand, just looks adorable.

In My Mailbox: Apr. 1, 2012

BOOKS.
Bought: A couple of pre-orders came in the mail this week and they're both books I'm really super excited about. I absolutely loved Nina LaCour's debut novel and the fact that Nova Ren Suma blurbed this one makes me even more happy abut ordering it. And the premise of Siobhan Vivian's The List just sounds brilliant and right up my alley.

In My Mailbox: Mar. 25

BOOKS.
Bought: It's a little amazing I haven't read this one before now and really my only defenses are (1) it's a book written (or at least marketed) specifically for parents, and I am not one. And (2) it was the basis for the movie Mean Girls, which  I definitely didn't like the one time I watched part of it. But I'm excited about reading this book all the same, especially since it's mentioned briefly in Odd Girl Out.
For Review: Huge thanks to Penguin Teen for sending me a package of upcoming contemporary YA novels. Authors Natasha Friend and Kristin Walker are both ones I've read before and Beth Kephart is an author I've heard great things about. I'm excited to finally be reading something of hers and in addition to that amazing cover, Small Damages sounds like a great, unique story. Also, Kristin Walker's 7 Clues to Winning You is a great book for me since I'm trying to read more sophomore novels and I enjoyed her debut, A Match Made in High School.

In My Mailbox: Mar. 11

BOOKS.
Book Trade: These are three books I've been wanting to get my hands on. I love novels in verse (Love and Leftovers), and was such a fan of Elizabeth Eulberg's first book that I couldn't pass up Take A Bow. Plus, the pitch for Life is But A Dream reminds me, in a small way at least, of Inception. I know it won't be anything the same, but I still really wanted to read it.

Bought: I've been looking for this book for a long time; it's a family drama that seems like it might be really good. Or just really depressing. We'll see! Either way, can't wait to read it and find out.

In My Mailbox: Sinking...

BOOKS.
Bought: Okay, this is a bit of an odd one. I actually had The Watch that Ends the Night and then, after months of not reading it, gave it to the used bookstore. But then I went and saw the Titanic exhibit at a local museum and it was so so so incredibly amazing (seriously, anyone in the San Diego area should go see it) that I immediately regretted giving this book up and went to the bookstore the next day to buy it back. I'm not quite sure why it's being considered YA, but whatever it is, I like it so far (I'm about 80 pages in as I write this post). As for the second book, The Rivals, I'm so so so jazzed about it. I absolutely loved The Mockingbirds and while it's not one that I felt really needed a sequel, it sounds so interesting and unique and I've heard such good things about this book that I'm sure I'll like it. (Now I just wish the cover I had of The Mockingbirds matched this.)

In My Mailbox: FINALLY.

BOOKS.
For Review: Two books came from Penguin this week, completely by surprise. I hadn't heard of either of them and they're not my typical reads; Cold Fury seems to be a bit action/adventure/mystery and No Safety in Numbers seems to be a Contagion-like story, which is definitely a departure for me. I don't really have any expectations or hopes for these two, so they might very well surprise me in a good way.

Bought: Ahhh, this is one I've been meaning to get for aaaaaaages. Practically since before it came out. MY EXCITEMENT IS THROUGH THE ROOF (even though I sort of already read part of it and know something big that happens and that makes me want to cry).

In My Mailbox: So Many Books!

BOOKS.
Gifted: Ahh, such lovely books from my mother and sister! All of these are books I've been wanting and while Save as Draft didn't live up to expectations, I'm completely invested in Cinder at this point and excited to read Shug, which I've heard good things about. (And also! It's by Jenny Han, author of the fantastic Summer series!)

For Review: These two books came super-unexpectedly and I'm so glad they did! I had literally been thinking about how I excited I was for Wicked Jealous that very day and then -- boom! It showed up! And I'm also anxious to read Keep Holding On.

In My Mailbox: Swap!

BOOKS.
Book Trade: I'm really happy about all of these books; two of them are by authors I want to read more from, and the third is a nonfiction book in the same vein as Odd Girl Out.

In My Mailbox: Excellent Titles

BOOKS
Bought: Both of these are books I pre-ordered and have been looking forward to for what feels like a very long time. They both have excellent titles and are about things I like reading about. My review of The Fault In Our Stars went up yesterday (go read it?) and I'm looking forward to reading The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight both because it sounds really great and because I've wanted to read one of the author's books for years. WIN.

Gift: AHHHHH I have a habit of doing a little dorky jumpy thing when I'm excited about something and I definitely did that when a signed copy of this book (courtesy of the awesome Sarah Ockler) showed up in my mailbox. Bittersweet is amazing. I'm so so so so happy I keep staring at it on my bookcase. Also, I bought a copy and that showed up on the same day so now I have two copies! Also, the cover of this book is all kinds of shiny-wonderful in real life.

In My Mailbox: Bird by Bird

I'm debating doing a huge IMM with all the books I have sitting on my shelves from the past few months (even though I've already featured some of them) and I may still do that, but for today a typical this-week-in-books In My Mailbox.

BOOKS
Bought: I've heard many authors talk about how great this book is and it's been recommended to me more than once. Today I was lucky enough to find it at the used bookstore and I'm so happy. I know I'm supposed to be reading (and am reading!) Gone With the Wind, but this is definitely calling my name.

In My Mailbox: Firsts!

BOOKS.
Bought: Ahhh I feel like I've been waiting for this ebook (by a bunch of '09 Debs) to come out FOR-EVER. But now it's finally here!!! The only sad thing is that cover is WAY TOO PRETTY to be relegated to an ebook, right? That font! Love it. Can't wait to read.

I've also gotten a bunch of Cybils books this week, but I'm not including them as lately IMM has started doing double-duty as not only a record of my books, but also a list of things I can't wait to read after Cybils season. That said, I'm excited to read The Anti-Prom.

In My Mailbox: Favorite Authors

BOOKS.
Bought: I don't often buy finished copies of ARCs unless I really really really love the book. And I really really really really love Gayle Forman's Where She Went. I can't wait to reread it. And How to Save A Life is by one of my favorite authors. It sounds like something right up my alley and I'm eager to get the chance to read it.

Library: I don't list my library books on here, but it's worth mentioning that I currently have over ten books out from libraries. It's kind of awesome, and also a little intimidating.

In My Mailbox: Playing Catch Up

I've skipped out on In My Mailbox the last couple of weeks, so I'm taking this as my opportunity to play catch-up for the books I've gotten the last two or three weeks.

BOOKS.
Bought: Yes, I bought the fake Pawnee book. But why not? It's hilarious and totally kept me entertained while I was holed up in bed being sick. And I bought the Kim Culbertson book (review here) both because it was on the Cybils list and I'd been wanting to read one of her books for a while. I still need to get my hands on a copy of Songs for a Teenage Nomad.

Book Trade: I'm a sucker for books written in verse and considering how much I loved Samantha Schutz' first book, this novel seemed like a good idea. I can't wait to read it.

Won: Thanks so much to Jessica for this book! I'm so interested in the unique way it's written and I love the cover. Another one I can't wait to read.

In My Mailbox: SO MONEY

BOOKS.
Bought: At the West Hollywood Book Fair I got to meet Cherry Cheva, who is seriously awesome and one of the few people I've met who seems to love television just as much as I do. So of course I had to buy one of her books and though I'm swamped with Cybils reading right now (again, yay!) I can't wait to read it.

PS. My dog is being really weird right now. If anyone was wondering.

In My Mailbox: LOLA!!

BOOKS.
Bought: Only one book this week but that's totally okay because it's my pre-order of Lola and the Boy Next Door!! SUPER SUPER SUPER EXCITING!! (Now, that girl on the cover totally looks like a robot, right?)

In My Mailbox: Books & Other Stuff

BOOKS.
From Authors: You guys you guys you guys!!! This cover!!! It's so pretty! I mean, I know it looks nice here but in real life it is SO MUCH NICER. All shiny and gold-y and so pretty. I'm excited to read this book both because not only do I love the premise (and title!) and think Keris Stainton is awesome, but also it's a UK book. Fancy!

Bought: I've never read a Jennifer Weiner book before but I follow her on the Twitter machine and have been wanting to read this one for quite a while. I don't quite know exactly what it's about but it sounds like it might be exciting. I DON'T KNOW, but I want to read it.

Also, I know today is Sept. 11 and I do feel compelled to talk about that a bit, but honestly this day affected me not-so-much and others so much more in very huge, very real ways. I feel like anything I would have to say would take away from how important it truly is to others and how much it fully changed so much about our world and so many people's lives.

In My Mailbox: Verse.

BOOKS.
Bought: This book has always sounded really interesting to me, but it didn't hit my MUST READ list until I found out it's written in verse. I LOVE books written in verse and am especially excited to read this one because I haven't read anything by Lisa Schroeder before.

And today! A question! What is your favorite novel written in verse?

In My Mailbox: GOODIES.

BOOKS.
Book Trade: I've been wanting to read Before I Fall ever since I read the first bit of it through a Kindle sample and I'm glad to have it on my shelf now. It's a thicker book than I was expecting and WOW it's pretty. I'm hoping I love it as much as others seem to have. And Possession is another start of a dystopic trilogy; something about the whole "good girls don't walk with boys" thing really appeals to me.

For Review: I actually requested an ARC of The Future of Us and am so so excited to read it. Plus I have a total fascination with the box it came in. My sister already read the ARC (yes, I let her read it first) and I think she liked it. I also got a paranormal title, Bloodlines, in the mail. I put that one on my book trade list because I DO NOT REVIEW PARANORMAL.

In My Mailbox: HERE ARE SOME BOOKS.

BOOKS.
Gift: Thank you SO MUCH to Liz over at Consumed By Books for sending me this one. I've heard great things about it. Also, does the cover remind anyone else of a shampoo ad?

Book Trade: I have a long-standing love of books written in verse and always love to see how it's done. After reading Hooked, which also tackled the subject of teen pregnancy, I'm looking forward to reading a book written in verse on the same subject.

Bought: I've been trying to slowly accumulate every Series of Unfortunate Events book and was able to get two more this week, which means the shelf for them is BECOMING QUITE FULL. Also a bunch of other books I am seriously seriously seriously seriously excited about. Another Terra Elan McVoy book! And Sharon Creech! AHHHHHHH!!!! I would say more stuff about these books but I am very very tired, so you'll have to make do with some shiny covers instead.
